The Ultimate Job Search Guide- AI Edition with Eliza Cabrera

Three years ago I created an audioblog on youtube and accompanying written blog to help folks organize their job searches and find a new ideal role.

The world has come a long way since then, and though most of the core tenets I wrote about hold true, regardless of your discipline, we are now very clearly in the age of AI and I thought it was important to share an updated version of this search guide for job seekers and for those who are quietly looking for something new.

The good news is that our friend Eliza Cabrera from AI in the Rockies, did a lot of the heavy lifting on exactly how to leverage AI to find and land your dream job.

Eliza gives VERY specific prompts and links, including for those who have never used any AI tools. Know that you should be using multiple tools including Claude Code, Gemini Deep Research, NotebookLM, ChatGPT, and more to supercharge your job search.

She has done such a fine job of creating a step by step guide for technical and non-technical seekers alike I am simply going to point you to her blog on Substack here.

Some quick takeaways from Eliza in her words;

  • AI is a tool for clarity, not a substitute for it. The weeks when I was clear on what I wanted and why produced better AI-assisted output than the weeks when I was scattered. The model reflects the thinker. If you don’t know what good looks like, the AI won’t either.

  • Being AI-enabled is a practice, not a setup. I didn’t just download some apps. I built rituals, refined prompts, and iterated on what worked. It took time to build the system. The payoff compounded and continues to as we move into a world of OpenClaw and Cowork.

  • Regardless of level, assess the ask before you start. Is this hypothetical or historical, or are they asking you to solve a real, current problem? In today’s climate, every company is assessing strategy, and very few understand AI. If you’re interviewing for an AI role, be mindful about how much you know and don’t just give it away. The former is a fair interview. The latter is consulting.

  • Know your rate. If they’re asking for consulting-level work, know what you’d charge for it. It clarifies your thinking — and if needed, your email.

So, start at the beginning with our Ultimate Job Seekers guide on getting grounded and having perspective and we of course share some very practical and time-tested approaches. Then, when you’re ready to dig deep and really find that dream job using AI- use Eliza’s step-by-step guide.

One closing thought- Having a positive mindset and taking care of your wellbeing during what can often be lengthy job search processes is key to all of this.

So, step away from your devices, get outside and take a few deep breaths - as they say ‘no challenge was ever made worse by a good long walk”

You’ve got this. We’re rooting for you.
