If you have a passion for working with incredibly smart people who care about developing elegant, large scale, distributed applications for enterprise firms – this position may be for you. In particular, our client seeks a candidate that lives and breathes IT infrastructure and Linux administration and a desire to learn. It’s a unique mix, but this is an incredibly integral position for a growing, successful company. You will juggle multiple responsibilities at all times, your skills will be tested and you will learn something new daily. Here’s the skinny on all that stuff in the paragraph above. You’re going to work hard, real hard. Our client doesn’t mess around because they’re moving big data around like it’s Godzilla’s play toy. They need their systems to run and they need them to run at capacity and not go down. Yeah, I know, systems go down. But, if you’re good – you know how to make it look like they didn’t. You need to master your domain, literally and figuratively.

Here’s the list, you should KNOW ALL THE THINGS!

  • Mid to senior level experience with the following will be critical to your success:
  • A true passion for creating a highly effective and efficient IT infrastructure for a high availability environment
  • Heavy Linux administration skills
  • LAN/WAN configuration and administration
  • Good exposure to Layer 1 and Layer 2 networking protocols
  • Excellent familiarity to configure and troubleshoot DHCP and DNS technologies
  • Virtualization technologies and theory/ VMWare
  • Managed Services Vendor interface exposure
  • Cloud hosting experience, such as AWS
  • User account access and general administration
  • Building and maintaining Linux servers, specifically RHEL/CentOS
  • Strong performance tuning and troubleshooting abilities in an enterprise environment
  • Very strong shell scripting skills and familiarity with at least one of the following languages – Perl, Javascript, Java, Ruby, or C
  • Maintain internal and external application portals
  • Strong network monitoring experience
  • Willing to work outside of normal business hours and participate in an on-call rotation

It’s not a tagline when we say this is a fast paced, serious, but fun place to work. A lot of job descriptions say that stuff, but there really is no good way for us to stress how serious we are about this. Our client wants people who will fit right into their team, who are quick on their feet, think outside the box, and can communicate well with the team.  Again, sounds like everyone else. The only thing I can tell you is that if you interview with them, you’ll quickly realize what I am saying. Heads up, you’re going to be grilled by the hiring manager and the team right away.  If you can’t handle the heat, get out of the server room (your server room shouldn’t be hot, ever. If it is, you probably lost your servers.)
